From 1996, Porto Belo Island works with the objective of making of the tourism an efficient tool of economic development, in harmony with the conservations of the natural and cultural resources of the region.
In this way, promotes the sun and sea tourism, adventure tourism and culture, in partnership with the local community and the local providers of tourist services.
Among the main work lines of action of the venture, are highlighted the following:
è Leisure and entertainment
Beach, sun, sea, nautical and adventure sports, ecologic trail, history, culture, infra structure and comfort.
è Local Sustainable Development
Consolidated partnerships with the main local tourist services providers, generating employment and income for more than 200 families directly and indirectly, during the season.
The sustainable tourism seeks minimize the environmental and socio cultural impacts, and at the same time promotes economic benefits to the local communities and destinations.
Porto Belo Island is the most important tourist attraction of the city, and during the high season guarantees employment and income for almost 200 families direct and indirectly.
The sustainable tourism and the interaction with the local community have impulse all the activities promoted by the venture that maintain important partnerships with the fishermen’s association and some of the main local tourist services providers.
è Education
Promoting environmental awareness, free of charge, with students form Porto Belo and region, and through the program Environmental Experience, for schools throughout the country.
Dissemination of knowledge about the environment, in order to help its preservation and the sustainable usage of its resources, it is also one of the main concerns of the venture Porto Belo Island.
From a wider perspective, not restricting the focus on the protection and sustainable usage of natural resources, but strongly incorporating the proposal of constructing sustainable societies, Porto Belo Island stimulates and promotes actions of environmental education through two main lines:
→ During the low season, between April and November, promotes environmental awareness receiving students from schools of Porto Belo for free.
The idea is a different class; the students visit all the structure of the island, improving the theoretical knowledge through a real contact with the geography, hydrography, geology, local fauna and flora. The initiative involves the company Porto dos Piratas, that offers the transportation freely between the continent and the island, and also the Univali Ecomuseum.
→ Also in the low season, between September and November, the venture is scene of the Educational Program Environmental Experience, offered to students of all ages of schools of the entire country.
è Environment and Biodiversity
Responsibility with the correct allocation of waste, treatment of effluents, besides of being a platform of important studies of fauna, flora and environment.
Based on the concept of sustainable development “is the one that meets the needs of the present without compromising the provisions of the needs for the future generations”, Porto Belo Island adopts and optimizes the care with the local environment and the biodiversity.
→ Correct destination of waste
Lamps Batteries | These items that contain mercury and other heavy metals are collected after use, on the island and in the houses of the employees, and taken to a specialized company in recycling that material. |
Engines oil | Eventual leaks are collected through gutters and specific deposits. The waste is stored in gallons and taken to company that buys and reuses this material. |
Aluminum | Beer and beverages cans are collected by employees who get extra income selling this material. |
Kitchen oil | After the season, the waste stored in sealed gallons, is taken to company specialized in the manufacture of mass for glasses. And part of it is used by employees to make soap craft. |

è Plataform for studies of fauna, flora and environmet
Going beyond legal obligations, such as monitoring the quality of water of the sea, groundwater and sewage, for example, the enterprise extends its commitment with the environment being a platform for important studies about biodiversity.
Focus on the study of the otter ecology and the increase of knowledge of this specie and its preservations in Brazil.
